Sick of chasing wild geese every year come new year's night, me myself and James Barrie have taken matters into our own hands.
We have a place you can get to easy (if you live in Barcelona, of course), bar prices, an immense soundsystem! and cheap-ass tickets for anyone organised enough to cop them beforehand.
You'd better go to Rift in Plaça Angels if you want a piece of the action!
Bon Any a tothom!

First of all, why call it a Christmas special and then do nothing Christmassy during the program? Is the idea of 8-bit any more attractive over the festive season? That aside, let me fill you in with what you probably missed at BeCool tother night.
There were three acts that we caught. There were more on the bill but we either missed them, didn't notice them or they were wack. And I believe that in general, it's better to say nothing than to say something negative, especially in this season of good will and mince pies.
The first was Drop 1410 who had a tremendous selection of energetic tunes which were well programmed and not too self involved, keeping us engaged for the duration despite the lack of vocals, etc. He popped up on occasion to introduce this or that, and I was slightly disppointed to see that he was a human and not a dalek or C3P0. He also dropped a really amusing take on early ninties eurotrance.
We were there to see Meneo, and I suppose that they were the main attraction for the most of the souls that made it up there on a school night, not for me though as I was steady on holiday by then. There set was pretty short, it must be said, as this early gig had had its share of technical glitches, but was intense as ever, and they dropped some new material including one track that seemed to be called 'Tiger Woods Is Gay'. Well I never. They also done a couple of covers, which I hadn't heard before, check the video below for to see whether you would have dug. Most people did. Also most people were disappointed not to see the band members' members during the performance. What can I say. It was cold and they might not have done their profiles any favours.
The act that put the night on is a Catalan/Japanese crossbreed called Pepino. They were a kind of 8 bit Pizzicato Five, she was more reserved and nicer to listen to, he was too wacky and is vocals did nothing for the tracks at all. Did I say I was going to be nice? My bad. Their synchronised dance moves were awesome though. And they had a bit of a penya down there that knew the tracks off by heart and whatnot.
Overall, the night was enjoyable, from the point of view of a showcase and not a night of dancing. You had to be a real 8 bit anorak to pay attention to everything, and Meneo were easily the slickest and most entertaining 30 minutes.

Christopher Tubbs is a DJ, producer, label consultant and record label owner. His productions as Tubbs and Atlantic Conveyor have resulted in strong support from luminaries such as Gilles Peterson, Mark Ronson and Groove Armada.
Christopher is well known for his Discolexia parties in London and Ibiza - they’re part of a DJing schedule that takes him all over the world.
More recently he has been strengthening his ties to the art and fashion world, playing parties for Comme Des Garçons in Paris, the Chanel/Canon anniversary celebrations in Monte Carlo and The Faile Exhibition in London - to name a few.
His sound is cutting edge: nouveau disco, post-punk, electroboogie, house and even into the world of techno - music for both dance connoisseurs and full-scale party-rocking.
It's his passion for hunting down new music and hidden treasures that has led him to being asked to broadcast the 6 Mix for BBC 6 Music in the new year. Other 6 Mix DJ's on rotation include Andy Weatherall, Derrick May and Erol Alkan. Watch this space for dates and details!

10. Goon & Koyote: Diamond Grills
Apart from or because of the loud and intrusive shouts from DJ Nasty, this is an incredibly slick mixtape full of all the essentials for number of repeat listens, including a 16 bar ghetto reworking of 'Good Life' by Inner City and a dope exclusive verse from Teki Latex. This tape represents the French take on booty, which seems to have been massive amongst our Gallic cousins.
9. Toddla T: Ghettoblaster
If this is how it started, T Willy has had it down from day un. This epic collection brought old favourites to our attention, scoured the ragga and bass scene for fresh gems, pushing all four versions of Toddla's first single, 'Do U Know'.
Ibiza Moment: Tiger Style: 'Tiger Style'
8. Aaron LaCrate & Low Budget: BMore Gutter Music
If ever a sound has been so easy to define it is B(alti)more Club. This tape is as good as it got. All the bangers you need to know about are contained within, with very few of the uninspired remixes that seems to have come to define this genre.
Ibiza Moment: Baltimore Club: 'Pork Chops'
7. Metro Area: Fabric 43
Their sound may be modest and reserved, but don't equivocate yourself: Metro Area are a production juggernaut. This Fabric mix came out about 4 years too late, but its classic content really negates time and fashions. It is also the only mix (possibly ever) with a humourous spoken intro that endears the artist to the listener.
Ibiza Moment: Devo: 'Freedom Of Choice'
6. DJ2D2: A Little Bass!
This is the gem of a selection of fine mixtapes from Barcelona's David Perez. Effortlessly floating between genres, it is so up on the new shit that even now it sounds futuristic. Why this lad doesn't have a residency in one of the city's larger dancing spaces I do not know.
Skream & Diplo 'Blipstream'
5. Vitalic: Live At Fuse 2002
This is the only live mix in the selection but I could not possibly discount it. Released bang in the middle of the electroclash years (I still shudder when I hear that term...), this hour of champagne techno sums up everything that is right about that sound.
Ibiza Moment: Vitalic: 'Newman'
4. Modeselektor: Boogybites Vol. 03
This is the saddest entry of all. When David Shayman commited suicide, I read and watched quite a lot of the coverage about the why, and what emerged was that he was an incredibly hard-working character who wasn't getting the success that he needed, and this may have contributed to his depression. This baffles me. I saw both Disco D and Diplo at Sònar a year apart. Where Diplo was blending some throwaway hits, Disco D played a live set on his MPC, influenced by his recent trip to Brazil. Where Diplo came out with 'Piracy Funds Terrorism', Disco D dropped Funk Flava 2005, an engaging frenzy of Miami Bass, Baile Funk and Ragga. Who's the better artist? (No offence meant Diplo.)
Ibiza Moment: DJ Funk: 'Knock Knock' Vs Blacka Ranks 'Take Off Something'
2. Playgroup: Party Mix
The first time I heard this tape I found myself dumbfounded. I was just trying to get into one beat when another one jumps in to take its place. Apart from insane DJ Assault mixes, I can't think of any compilation that plays you less of any one song. Trevor Jackson's Party Mix grew and grew on me, and the lack of tracklist made it all the more interesting, in the tradition of DJs covering the labels on their records to avoid people copying their choices. At the time I read that there was a prize for anyone who could name all the tunes, which range from disco and funk to soundtrack and new wave, something that I have never felt confident enough to attempt. Some of the tunes are obvious, some obscure, but they are cut and blended in such a fashion that this hour is irresistible to the backpack muso and the top-of-the-popster.
Ibiza Moment: Too many to mention
1. 2 Many DJs: As Heard On Radio Soulwax Part 2
It's not hip anymore, but that doesn't alter the significance of this tape to me myself and the millions of others who couldn't get this out of the CD player for months and months a few years ago. Ignoring the wildly ambitious selection of bangers, both old and new, the amount of work that went into the re-editing of some of the instrumentals and vocal tracks is unfathomable. Not to mention the difficulty that they must have had in getting the rights to all the songs in order to sell this album. This tape opened my eyes to a lot of new ideas and will be eternally indebted to it for that.
Ibiza Moment: The Cramps: 'Human Fly
- The Poddington Peas
- The Cabbage Patch Kids
- The Killer Tomatoes (Attack of the)

What is your current favourite record?
There are so many good records both new and old (I mainly play and listen to old music except for skweee, that's really the only "modern" stuff i play). Also I listen to all sorts of music from hip hop, funk/soul/disco, folk rock, psychedelia, pop, synth/new wave/ebm, classical.
So my answer would be Randy Barracuda´s album and Robert Görl "Night full of tension".
What is the ultimate end of the night track?
Pretty difficult question, maybe "Blinkar Blå" by Adolphson & Falk (Swedish 80's synth pop duo)
Which artist gets ultimate Daniel Savio respect right now?
Too many to mention but if we are talking skweee it will of course be Pavan otherwise I would say Edvard Grieg.
& James Brown (still the king)...
What parties are showing the rest how it's done?
Flogsta Nattliv, Top Nice (London and Stockholm) and All Out Dubstep.
What is your Plat du Jour?
The Loved One (really great movie from 1965)
Finally... Here's our Plat du Jour. Plat du Jour's Plat du Jour... Released earlier this year on Flogsta Danshall Records. Monkey Wee Monkey Poo. Second time on the blog and deservedly so!

Scandinavian music history maker – Daniel Savio – the very first skweee DJ, its second producer, and the one who coined the term “skweee” (”while trying to “squeeze” the juice out of [his] Juno till the last drop”) presents a skweee-licious mix for Big Up Magazine! Yes, it is everything you expect: funky, crazy, synthy, odd, squeaky, but above all it is absolutely fresh! Enjoy!

Here is a track that will feature on Disc 1 of 12... This will be the one you pay attention to...
