Friday Tune...

The Hypnotist - The House Is Mine (Dark Syndicut Remix)

This one is for Waldron & The GrecoRoman crew. Doing it for all the 24 year olds out there!

We LOVE Flying Lotus...

Check this mash-up of the new Cosmogramma LP on Warp Records taken from the Giles Peterson show on BBC Radio 1. Then BUY it from one of our favourite record stores (Piccadilly Records in the mighty Manchester). Amazing. Jimi Hendrix of our generation, believe!

Diplo Vs. Tiësto

HAHA. Put your hands up if you don't like Tiësto. Picture a real hands in the air moment, a mexican wave of support! You shouldn't trust people that refer to themselves in the third person and say things like "What Tiësto wants, Tiësto gets!". I don't hate this tune, I imagine it'll do well commercially, wish I guess is what this project is about. Sad news?

Can You Feel It?

Only two short weeks to the beginning of the week-long indie behemoth of a festival that be Primavera Sound.  There's all sorts of reasons to get jittery about this inevitable city-wide hoedown; your friends are coming from England, there's gigs all over the shop, from the metro to Bar Fantastico, from Parc Joan Miró to Apolo (Black Lips will be nasty on the Sunday night), Monesteri to l'Auditori, and of course the concrete travesty that is the Forum.

I have to admit that most of the names on the line-up could very well be made up by a graphic designer with a cynical sense of humour, but there are those who walk amongst us on a slightly higher plane of sub-pop knowledge, peering over the underground, quickly sifting out the Gay Dads to find the Mujeres.  Occasionally these mages of rock understanding let out a little fart of recommendation in order to shed light on the diamonds that we cannot miss in between trying to sneak into VIP and getting steaming off sexy/punky beers outside the front gate.

One such wizard is Trevor Steward, who releases his selection in a handy downloadable mix through his eloquent blog, Kids Don't Follow.  Peep that.

3* Vs. Pimenta Mallagueta!

Man when I found The Blessings for the first time I was excited. I got sent this electronic Burrito and there it was folded into the waves of rice, Jalapeños, Frijoles Bayos Refritos and some Pimenta Malagueta for real packa-punch!! It's slick though, like everything of LuckyMe fame it looks so good you don't know where to start. It's 3* Michelin design with gritty south of the border bass heat! The perfect combo.

In respect of their recent workings Plat du Jour are cooking are a Mexican feast of which will be documented on here innit! The Blessings... Wish you were here. Plat du Jour x

Weekly Wild Out Wig Out In The Wilderness

This look good!  Something that doesn't involve one of the monolith clubs has got to be a welcome change.  Plus you gots all weekend to get down, starting tonight, but it's tomorrow that gets the Wig Out seal of approval with the likes of Nehuen, C156 and Mr Gasparov leading the line in the all night bass rave in a location as yet unannounced yet to be announced should you find yourself in the warm-up sala which is called Sala FUN, on Carrer Puigcerdà, 98, terroir Mad Max, Poble Nou.

The all weekend ticket will make you 15 clams poorer, the one night all-nighter tomorrow night 12, but you will be all the richer in seeing some new spaces and faces. Let's get down with the get down.

Rewind! DJ Bella Boo reminded me of this big anthem! wooow!

Adventure Capitalism

discos paradiso

A new record shop has opened in the centre of Barcelona, and it goes by the name of Discos Paradiso.  A joint venture between four Catalan friends, the shop offers plenty of second hand gems from the realms of us and European house, techno, rave and disco, rock, garage and funk; as well as the latest joints from the sub-genres that are invented every couple of months in our modern times.

After having managed to convince the government that the nous and potential market was there for the project to succeed, our brave stewards set off on what was undoubtedly one of the best trips for a crate digger imaginable, steaming around mainland Europe in a van in search of material to sell.  The results are there for all to see, if all would like to go visit the store the address be Ferlandina 39, Barcelona 08001.

I had a little word with Gerard and Arnau to see how they were feeling a week after their launch.

PDJ: Is this the easiest way you can think of to earn a living?

DP: Maybe not the easiest but the most fun.  For us it's one of the best jobs that we could do, but at the moment, records are not the easiest things to sell.

PDJ: Why should people buy vinyl and not CDs or MP3s?

DP:   In our opinion, a record is like an objet d'art.  If you want to really achieve anything in music, you have to press records, as opposed to a CD or MP3 that ultimately no-one cares about.

PDJ:  Why should people to to your shop rather than any of the other shops in Barnawood?

DP:  We think that our shops is one of the best ways to inform yourself about music in the city.  In the back we have a stage where people can spin or do a concert, and we take care of second-hand records which is not usual in Barcelona.

PDJ:  What does Barcelona have, in terms of music, that is special?

DP:  That's a difficult question.  Right now, we don't have a strong scene as a whole, but we have separate groups of people that are doing very good things.  The best think that we could do is try to be strong and be a family.

Discos Paradiso maintain a well-written blog about records that they have in stock, and are starting to put  on wee events in the charming back room that they have going there.  The next one is this Saturday, 8th May, in the afternoon.

Wild Ass Weekend Weekly Wig-Out of The Week: This Time More West

This week's essential wig-out comes from a whole new angle in a whole other locality.  I , DJ Slick Dixxx, the working DJ's working DJ, will have the honour to break in, tame and ride the Madrileño public of Pantera over disco hurdles, through tunnels of bass and over bridges of international house bleeps.

But you and I both all know that Slick Dixxx doesn't never ride solo, for fear of bandit attack, so it is a great feather in my cap to have Montañero 4814 of La Montaña Sagrada as my wingman, not to mention Blasco Etchegarray and the Zombie Kids also clearing out tumbleweeds of dancefloor inersia and replacing them with gold rushes of subidones and other agreeable nightclub phenomena.
